UURC News: Due date for Wilson® scholarship application extended to June 1.

Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Level II Policies

WRS Level II Certification Requirements -- Participants must:

  • Have earned WRS Level I Certification & an undergraduate degree prior to admittance.
  • Submit WRS Level II course fees, $375 (non-refundable) to the UURC to begin registration process for the first WRS Level II Practicum course. Remit payment to UURC, Karla.Padilla@utah.edu.
  • Submit registration intent form to the UURC, michele.blake@utah.edu.
  • Must select AOCE credit/no credit or AOCE letter grade credit. Letter grade credit has an additional fee of $100 and requires a written case study at the end of the practicum. credit/no credit course will be awarded at no additional cost or you can pay $100 / to the UURC for a letter grade.
  • Attend the WRS Level II Advanced Strategies for MSL Group Instruction Course prior to WRS Group Practicum. (prerequisite within 3 years)
  • Complete WRS Group Practicum within 15 months of course start date.
  • Complete WRS Level II (Steps 7-12) practicum and Advanced Word Study (WRS Steps 7-12) online course within 15 months of course start date.
  • Submit 6 videotaped observations (3 per practicum – minimum, but trainer may ask for more).
    *Failure to meet one or more requirements is grounds for scholarship revocation.

Supplementary Support (optional):

  • Educators may attend 6 coaching sessions (per year) while enrolled in a WRS Level II practicum. Each year, 3 of the coaching sessions will have a Group focus and the other 3 will have a Step 7-12 focus. Educators will be sent a yearly schedule for the coaching sessions.
  • WRS Level II certified educators are welcome to attend additional WRS Level II coaching sessions following the first 3 scholarship years for an annual fee ($120). The fee is due at the first coaching session attended. Educators should contact the UURC for WRS Level II coaching session schedules.

Videotapes:

  • Participants who start with the WRS Level II (Steps 7-12) Practicum must submit 1 videotape to their WRS Level II trainer within the first 20 lessons of enrollment in WRS Level II (Steps 7-12) Practicum.
  • Participants who start with the WRS Group Practicum must submit 1 videotape to their WRS Level II trainer within the first 20 lessons of enrollment in WRS Group Practicum.
  • Final taped observations must be sent to the trainer 1 month prior to the practicum end date to allow additional taped lessons as directed by the WRS Level II trainer.

WRS Advanced Strategies for MSL Group Instruction (3 day) Course:

  • WRS Level I Certified tutors who have declined scholarship may attend the group workshop (fee = $350, price subject to change).
  • Participants may attend the WRS Advanced Strategies for MSL Group Instruction Course for a $350 fee (price subject to change).
  • Educators must attend the WRS Advanced Strategies for MSL Group Instruction Course (3 day) prior to beginning group mastery practicum.

Participants Who Withdraw:

  • The UURC will not charge a fee for withdrawing from a WRS Level II practicum.

Deferment:

  • Participants may defer their scholarship.
